Activities
We are proud of the many co-curricular activities our students have the opportunity to participate in at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School. We hope your child will take advantage of the many possibilities available. All extracurricular activities require a student to be eligible by maintaining at least a 1.25 GPA and passing 75% of their classes.
Specific tryout/practice/meeting dates will be announced. This information will be shared with students on their grade level RBC Connections Google Classroom.

Extracurricular Activities

The art club meets throughout the year as an after school activity. Art Club gives students the chance to enjoy a variety of arts and crafts experiences they may not have in a regular classroom setting. It allows each student to further develop their own imagination and artistic skills without the pressures of grades and due dates. This is an after school activity, and there will be a fee to cover supplies used throughout the year. Some of the projects may include T-shirt design, metal working, holiday crafts, and clay.
When: All year, twice a month after school.

The RBC Band’s purpose is to develop high standards of musicianship in each student through instrumental music. Band students perform diverse programs of music including Classical, Popular, Jazz and World music.
When: All year, during school hours.

Chorus offers students a rewarding musical experience in the exciting world of choral performance. Students will be able to experience different styles of music while learning basic skills such as sight reading and vocal technique.
When: All year, during school hours.

What: Drama Club provides the opportunity for 7th & 8th graders to be involved in all aspects of live theater production. In the process, the Drama Club gives the students in Twinsburg the opportunity to experience student performances of live theater.
When: One show per year in the spring. Practices are after school. Time commitment of 2-3 hours per day while the show is in rehearsal.

What: ECO Team will meet every other week as an after school activity. The focus of this club will be on environmental issues and creative solutions to those issues. Students will be encouraged to explore their interests in this field and will even have an opportunity to organize and implement projects that help address and raise awareness surrounding the issues they are passionate about. This program offers students an opportunity to build leadership and use creative problem solving skills that they may not have in a regular classroom.
When: Starts in October and ends in April.

The Jazz Band is one of the most popular extracurricular activities offered at RBC. Members are expected to be enrolled in a performing group at RBC.
When: September-April, Wednesday practice after school. All “Band” instruments are welcomed.

What: Orchestra is an opportunity for students trained in string instruments to further their exploration of this popular musical choice.
When: All year, during the school day

Power of the Pen is a creative writing club for middle school students. Participants compete against other schools in districts, regional and state competitions. Participants try out for the competition side of the club, whereas all participants are encouraged to regularly attend and write.
When: Practices take place from the beginning of November to the end of March once a week after school from 2:25-4:00 at RBC. District and Regional competitions take place in January and February with a qualifying State competition in May.

A celebration of all things literary at KSU! Students will have the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions and meet a guest author. The festival takes place in the spring. Prior to the festival, students will read six books selected by the festival committee and complete book reviews for each title. All students will receive festival details and book titles in language arts.

RBC Singers serves as a training ensemble for students who are interested in learning more about show choir, and is modeled after Twinsburg High School’s Great Expectations Show Choir. Students learn foundations in vocal and dance technique, and have several performance opportunities throughout the school year including competing in local show choir competitions. You must be in Chorus to join RBC Singers.
When: All year, after school usually one to two days per week. Try outs are in early September.

The spelling bee will meet as a club throughout the month of January. We will practice one day per week after school in preparation for the school wide spelling bee which will occur one afternoon in early February. Students may participate without attending practice. All students will receive study materials. RBC will be taking one student winner to the Regional Spelling Bee in Akron in March.
When: Beginning in January

This is an organization made up of both 7th & 8th graders. The goal is to promote good leadership, set a positive example for all students, and to develop a group of students who act as role models for the entire student body. Members organize many events throughout the school year including school dances and spirit weeks.
